Audition for the Yale Concert Band (MUSI 1190)

The Yale Concert Band (MUSI 1190) rehearses every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:05pm to 6:15pm in the Keith L. Wilson Band Room, 301 Hendrie Hall in the Adams Center for Musical Arts, 165 Elm Street.

Do not register for this 0-credit, P/F class until you have been admitted to the Yale Concert Band.

The audition will be threefold:

  1. Required audition piece. Links to PDFs and recording of audition piece are available in late July.
Download PDF and prepare your chosen part.
Select a part that fits your range and technical ability.
You will be asked to play excerpts from this part. Follow tempo markings on the part. If you cannot play as fast as the recording, play as fast as you can play well.
  2. Prepared solo piece. Prepare up to 5 minutes of a solo piece for your instrument (e.g., an All-State audition piece or comparable etude).
  3. Sight reading. There will be some sight reading.
